HGLGroupGolf Program for the Visually Impaired
The Hickory Grove Lions Club, with considerable assistance from the Davidson Lions Club and the Waxhaw Lions Club, hosts a visually impaired golfer program every September October and November. Many of the participants are totally blind and several are disabled veterans. Every fall our Lions and other volunteers provide transportation for our golfers to the driving range for a few practice sessions. They also provide assistance to the golfers aligning their shots Darrell
and determining distance and direction of their shots. A few of our volunteers are very good golfers. They can offer our golfers tips and instruction to develop their swing. Any Charlotte Area visually impaired person that wishes to participate is welcome even if they have never played golf before. We can provide any needed equipment (clubs, balls, tees, excetera). The program concludes each year with two "9 hole" outings on the course. Drinks and snacks David_Drivesare provided and after the game all the golfers and volunteers gather for an afternoon meal. All transportation, food, drinks, balls, tees, equipment, range balls and green fees are provided free of charge.
